One app,
your band only.

Announcements, assignments, a tuner and a metronome, in one private app your students actually open.

Free for your band · Invite-only · App Store, Android and any browser

The ClefBoard home dashboard: recent announcements, this week's calendar, assignments due, open polls and recent recordings.

The problem

  • Five apps for one band.
  • Parents hear about the trip last.
  • “Where's the part?”
  • Nobody tuned before the downbeat.

The fix

One app. One band. Everything in it is yours.

Communicate

Every message,
one app.

The ClefBoard announcements feed on a laptop: the director's competition itinerary with two PDFs sent to every section, and a brass sectional update from a staff tech, with comment and attachment counts.
Post once and the right sections see it. Schedule it, attach the itinerary, see who's read it.
The ClefBoard calendar in month view, with a repeating Monday and Wednesday rehearsal opened to show its schedule and description.
Calendar. Rehearsals, games and trips, each with times, files and role targeting. Guard gets the early call time; parents get the pickup.
A ClefBoard group chat on an iPhone: the Brass Section thread with an @Brass mention from the director, emoji reactions and a shared announcement card.
ClefBoard poll results on an iPhone: 27 responses, with bar charts for T-shirt sizes and a select-all question about hoodies, sweatpants and beanies.
Messages and polls. DMs and group chats with @mentions and reactions. T-shirt sizes, bus counts, show music votes; the director sees every result.
A ClefBoard playing-test assignment on a laptop: instructions, due date, rubric PDFs, and a tracker showing 7 of 10 brass students submitted.
Assignments. Playing tests arrive as video submissions, with multiple attempts allowed. Grade with private feedback.
A ClefBoard board on a laptop: Saturday competition prep, with Equipment, Uniforms, Drill fixes and Day of columns of cards marked In progress, Planned and Done.
Boards. Columns and cards for uniform checklists, drill fixes and fundraiser tasks. Roles set who can view, contribute or manage each one.
  • Recordings. Comments pinned to a timestamp in the video, so “bar 32” means bar 32.
  • Attendance. Roll call with late, missing and excused. Students see their own record.
  • Roster. Per-band names and roles. Directors manage it.
  • Important Files. Handbook, forms, drill charts, parts. One place, always current.
  • Gallery. Photo and video albums from every trip, game and show.
  • Roles. Every post targets roles you define, and the database enforces it.

Music tools

No more “download
this other app.”

The ClefBoard composer on a laptop: a brass score with trumpet, euphonium, baritone and French horn staves, grace notes, slurs and a piano keyboard for input.
Composer. A real notation editor inside the app. Write an exercise, hear it back, attach it to an assignment.
The ClefBoard tuner on an iPhone reading B-flat, 10 cents sharp, with a pitch history graph.
Tuner. Chromatic, fast, right there before the downbeat.
The ClefBoard metronome on an iPhone running at 121 BPM in sixteenths, with tempo presets and a subdivision picker.
Metronome. Presets, plus lock-screen control on iPhone.
The ClefBoard transposer on an iPhone: a chord written for flute in B-flat, transposed for French horn in F.
Transposer. Concert pitch to B♭, E♭, F and back.
The ClefBoard circle of fifths on an iPhone with D major selected, showing its scale and key signature.
Circle of Fifths. Keys, signatures and relatives at a glance.
  • Tuning Drone. Hold a pitch under long tones and chorales.
  • Conductor. Beat patterns with a lock-screen Live Activity. Share presets with the band.
  • And more. New tools arrive with app updates, no extra downloads.

Self practice

Practice that
keeps score.

The ClefBoard Rhythm game on an iPhone: three guesses scored green, yellow and red beat by beat, with the fourth try playing.
The ClefBoard Self Practice hub on an iPhone: a 14-day practice streak and a chart of games completed across all ten games.
The ClefBoard Rhythm Tap game on an iPhone.
Ten games in four groups. The hub tracks completion counts and day streaks. Practice logs stay private to the student.
  • Rhythm. Rhythm, Rhythm Tap and Releases.
  • Tempo. Internal Metronome and BPM Hold.
  • Ear. Note Guess, Tone Guess and Interval Trainer.
  • Chords. Chord Builder and Chord Trainer.

Who's behind this

Built by a band kid, for band directors.

I played trombone, then led my section, then served as drum major in high school marching band and college band. I remember rehearsal changes landing in three different apps, parts buried in a shared drive, and parents finding out about the trip last. Every tuner and metronome was another download with ads.

Now I work directly with band directors and instructors. ClefBoard is shaped by what they see in the room: rhythm, intonation, holding tempo without a click, knowing what's due. When a director tells me something's missing, it goes in the next release.

Questions? Email me

Questions
directors ask.

What does it cost?

It's free for your band right now.

Who can see what?

Only members of your band, and only what their roles allow. Every post targets roles you define, and that's enforced in the database, not just hidden in the interface.

Can parents join?

Yes, as a role. Send them parent posts, events and polls without cluttering the students' feed.

Is there an Android app?

Install it from Chrome: open clefboard.app, then choose Install app from the menu. It sits on the home screen and gets push notifications. No store needed.

What about student data?

No ads and no data sales. Sign-in is by email code, practice logs are private to the student, and students can delete their own account. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Can I run more than one band?

Yes. Switch between bands in the app; each keeps its own roster, roles and posts.

How do we move off Remind or Google Classroom?

We set up your band, you add emails or share an invite link, and students sign in with a code. Post there first for a week while you wind the old channels down.
